What I Wore Wednesday

I'm really sad to say that I won't be posting an Academy Awards fashion review this year. I totally missed the red carpet and the entire awards show because I was stuck in the airport in Portland and then on the plane. And of course it seemed like the only channel the plane didn't have was the one that showed the awards show. :(  Oh well. I guess my outfits will have to suffice.

Outfit #1

Wore this to work one day last week. Even though our office is really casual, I usually try to only wear jeans on Friday. But my boss was gone all week, so jeans in the middle of the week it was!

Jacket - Target - $19.98 sale from $39.99 / Top - Target / Belt - Coach / Jeans - Levi's / Boots - Nine West

Outfit #2

I feel like I might be one of the few people left who like to look nice on the plane. Maybe because I'm still looking for Mr. Right and think he might be there? Anyways, this is what I wore to fly to Portland to visit my sister and sister-in-law for a short visit and celebrate my birthday a little early. This top is from the Lela Rose for Neiman Marcus for Target (jeez, that's a mouthful!) collection. I bought the items I wanted immediately when they came out because I thought they'd sell out really quickly. Boy was I wrong! The price point was pretty high for Target, even though the clothing is really, really nice quality, so the collection sat there forever! I thought it wouldn't go on clearance until after Christmas which would probably mean no price adjustments, but right before Christmas it went to 50% off. I was kind of pissed that I paid so much, so I took it all back and bought it immediately again for the lower price.

Outfit #3

My cozy outfit for my first day in rainy Portland. And I totally made the scarf I'm wearing! Can you believe it?!? I'm replicating the outfit of a blogger I follow - a how to winterize a maxi skirt outfit - but I didn't have a chunky scarf. Then I pinned a DIY scarf on Pinterest and actually made it. And got lots of compliments on it! Here's a link to the arm knitted scarf I made. Watch the video - it's incredibly helpful. My hair looks weirdly long and wrinkled in this picture, which is before it got totally rained on, so it doesn't make much sense. Whatevs.

Outfit #4

Hanging out in Portland outfit. I changed into something cuter later for a dinner party, but forgot to get a picture.

Sweater - Target - $22.99 / Tank - Old Navy / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Steve Madden

Outfit #5

Back in Denver. Back to work. Sad. But at least I have this pretty skirt to wear! I saw the same blogger I mentioned above wearing this skirt and loved it so much I literally had to go buy it the same day. Though today might have not been the most ideal day to wear it. Getting across icy gutters in a pencil skirt is not an easy feat. And this afternoon another storm came in and the temp with wind chill was like 10 degrees, so I was really quite cold. Oh well.

Top - CAbi / Necklace - Loft / Belt - Target / Skirt - Target - $22.99 / Tights - Assets / Shoes - Coach

What I Wore Wednesday

My week of outfits for this post started with a three day celebration of Valentine's Day (even though I'm single). I celebrated with pink!

 Outfit #1

I finally got to wear this skirt (I've had it forever!), and with fun tights similar to those I ripped a couple weeks ago. I bought the skirt a couple years ago during the end of winter sales. It's a fabulous felted wool. I bought it slightly larger than I wore at the time because I knew I'd need to tailor the pencil skirt to fit my curves correctly. But then I never got it tailored and it sat in my closet for a really long time. Finally this winter, I got a bunch of clothes tailored, including this skirt. It needed much more work this time around because of the weight I've lost - I could practically pull it on and off without unzipping it. The waist is still a little big, but it's a million times better than it was before.

Turtleneck - CAbi / Necklace - ILY Couture / Belt - Target / Skirt - Talbots / Tights - Hue / Shoes - Coach

Outfit #2

I originally put this on for Valentine's Day, but then realized I actually had no need to even leave the house, so I changed into something more comfortable. I got the sweater a few months ago at Target, where it was oddly on clearance already. Also, I finally found some more opaque black tights - yay! These are from Hue and they are their Super Opaque tights. Love them.

Ahhhhh....much more comfortable. :) Yoga pants and slippers. (I figured I'd show you what I really wore, even if it's nothing special.)

Sweater - Target - $11.48 sale from $22.99 / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Skirt - Jason Wu for Target / Tights - Hue / Shoes - Coach / Yoga Pants - Target / Slippers - Target

Outfit #3

My third and final pink outfit - an old suede blazer I've had forever, paired with a fun striped scarf. This scarf is really more appropriate for spring, but it caught my eye recently and looked good with this blazer. It has bright pink, mint green, bright blue, and navy blue stripes. I was originally confounded as to what shoes I was going to wear, but because of the navy stripes, I wore my navy shoes. Then I determined that I really like the combo of bright pink and navy together.

Blazer - Valerie Stevens / Scarf - Target - $14.99 / Shirt - Target / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Nine West

Outfit #4

Wore this on a beautiful 60 degree day this weekend - so random for Denver in the middle of February, but that's why I love this city. :) I also love this ikat print scarf and its combo of black and brown.

Shirt - Target / Scarf - Echo via Macy's - gift from my sister-in-law / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Steve Madden

Outfit #5

I really like this black and white outfit for some reason. I feel flirty and fun in it. Pair it with bold red lips - perfect! :)

Top - H&M / Belt - ? / Skirt - Jason Wu for Target / Tights - Hue / Shoes - Coach

Hope you enjoyed my outfits this week! See you soon.

What I Wore Wednesday

Welcome to Volume 11 of What I Wore Wednesday! I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy, so click on her link over the the right to check out the outfits of the other bloggers!

Outfit #1

Heading to work in another one of my Goodwill finds paired with some nice existing stuff from my closet, in one of my favorite color pairings - brown and pink.

Sweater - Boston Proper / Tank - Coldwater Creek / Necklace - gift from Michelle / Pants - AB Studio, thrifted - $2.50 / Shoes - Tahari via DSW - $29.97

Here's a closer look at the pretty lace of the shirt and the beautiful rose quartz necklace Michelle got me a few years ago for my birthday.

These brown heels from Tahari are pretty basic, but I find it hard to find good brown heels for some reason, so I bought them even though they're a little boring. I'd also prefer them to be a little darker of a brown, but they'll do. They're pretty comfortable.

Outfit #2

John and I had a client presentation this day, so I dressed up a little more than usual. John likes it when I wear dresses. :) Though you can't see any of the fun details of this dress because I covered them up with the sweater, it's a really great dress. It has figure flattering pleats and my favorite dress detail - pockets. It also has an exposed zipper down the back. And the best thing of all - this dress is a size down from my usual dress size. While I wish I could say it's because I lost some more weight, it's really partly because of the style of the dress (it's fitted only on top, where I'm naturally smaller than my lower body) and a little bit of vanity sizing from Loft.

Sweater - Target / Dress - Loft - $47.70 sale from $79.50 / Necklace - ILY Couture / Belt - from another dress / Tights - Assets / Shoes - Coach

Outfit #3

Wearing another Macy's after-Christmas sale shopping spree item. I don't think I'm ever going to run out! This top has some fun details that aren't noticeable in this pic - vertical pleats down the front and buttons on one shoulder and one hip.

Top - Jones New York via Macy's - $64.50 sale from $129.00 / Necklace - Kohl's / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Charles David

I can't remember if I've ever posted a closer shot of my favorite leopard print heels, but here they are!

Outfit #4

Wore this fun dress out to an event on Friday night called Design After Dark. It's a fundraiser for the Architecture, Design, and Graphics department of the Art Museum. The theme this year was Cirque so I wanted a colorful, fun dress. I found this online, on final sale (no returns), and had to take a risk that it would fit. The size available was smaller than I would normally buy, but it worked!  The dress came with a narrow braided black belt that really didn't go with it, so I switched it out with a wide leather belt I've had for a while. Friday morning I decided I needed a chunky black necklace to wear, so on my lunch break I ran over to the mall to see if I could find one quickly. After being seriously disappointed with Macy's and Claires, I popped into Forever 21 for the first time in many, many years and found so many options it was ridiculous! And so inexpensive! I bought four necklaces for like $40.00. The event was a TON of fun. I felt totally appropriately dressed, with enough "design" details and enough fun for the theme, and I was totally comfortable all night.

Dress - Chelsea & Theodore via Dillard's - $27.00 sale from $79.00 / Necklace - Forever 21 - $14.80 / Belt - Target / Tights - Assets / Shoes - Nine West

Here's a closer look at all the colors in the dress.

And the awesome shoes I wore. I love the details around the ankle and they also have a funky gold zipper along the heel.

I always used to do something different with my hair for events, but then I was never happy with the way I looked, so I kept my hair in my regular style and just changed up the makeup. I was attempting to get a picture of said eye makeup - I went for a smokey eye for the first time ever, not that you can see it here. But I really like the photo that I did get. :) I turned it into black and white (which turned out really cool looking) and put it on facebook, too.

Outfit #5

Wearing my green pants with boots turned out to not be my favorite look, but it was too cold to go with bare ankles, as these pants would do. Here's another one of my fabulous cheap F21 necklaces, though! (Jeez! This outfit is practically all Target!)

Cardi - Target / Tank - Target / Necklace - Forever 21 - $14.80 / Pants - Target / Boots - Ros Hommerson

Here's a slightly closer look at this fun necklace, which is made up of black, teal, and blue beads. I like it as a statement piece with a pretty tame outfit. This tank is also pretty cute, with a pleated cross-over neck above a peplum.

Outfit #6

I'm determined to wear this necklace in a variety of ways, so this day I wore it to work over a silky shirt. Generally successful. I think next time I wear this shirt, I'll wear it untucked with skinny jeans.

Top - Apt. 9 via Kohl's / Necklace - Forever 21 / Jeans - J. Jill / Belt - Lodis via Zappo's / Shoes - Coach

The rest of this week I'm going to celebrate Valentine's Day on three days, via my wardrobe only as I am single. :) I'll show you in my post for next week.

16 vs. (almost) 36

A friend on Facebook did this and included me. I thought it would be fun and I decided to turn it into a blog post instead of just a status update on FB.

Age I was given: 16
Relationship: None
Drove: I wasn't driving yet. I didn't get my license until I was 17. :) But at 17 I drove a yellow Dodge Aries. Very cool car. Not!
Job: Worked at Motions, a dance wear store by DU, fitting toe shoes on uppity ballerinas, etc. Sometime during this year, I also started working at Chateau de Patisserie, a bakery/coffee shop in Tiffany Plaza.
Fear: I was about to change high schools and I had some really big fears about not having any friends at my new school, East. TJ had all of my friends from elementary school through middle school, and I was leaving that for the unknown. But I needed the change. Making new friends at East turned out to be incredibly difficult and for months I felt very alone. Eventually I made a few friends, a small little group to hang out with, but my friendships there would never compare to my friendships with people from before. Now, I can admit that switching schools was probably a mistake. I wish I had stayed at TJ. I wish I could have graduated with all of my friends. I wish I could go to their high school reunions as I don't think I'll ever go to East's.

Age I am now: almost 36
Relationship: Still None
Drive: Silver Nissan Murano
Job: Working as an Interior Designer. I've tried to change careers, but that's stalled out for the time being. For now, I just need to find a job that provides a steady paycheck.
Fear: So many. The biggest two right now - I'm afraid I won't find a job. I'm out of money and freaking out about paying the bills that have accumulated during the last year of not making any money. And I'm afraid of not finding someone to spend my life with. I want a relationship, I want to share my life with somebody, I want to be in love. But it's really difficult to put yourself out there when you're not feeling good about where you are in life.

Who wants to play? I'll give you an age to start with...

What I Wore Wednesday

Welcome to Volume 10! I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy again, so click on her button over to the right to see the other blogger's outfits.

 Outfit #1

I've had these fabulous wide-leg navy slacks for a year and a half and this is the first time I've worn them. I finally got them hemmed - I had to cut almost 10" off of them! I've also had this sweater for years and was inspired to wear it again after I saw J of J's Everyday Fashion wear hers recently.

Cardi - Banana Republic / Tank - Target / Slacks - H&M / Shoes - Nine West

Outfit #2

Wore this to work and out to dinner with my parents. My mom thought I looked dressed up. I guess she's still not used to seeing jeans and heels together. I got this fun houndstooth jacket a few years ago from a boutique clothing store vendor at Junior League's Holiday Mart - I don't wear it that often, but I love it!

Jacket - BB Dakota / Shirt - Land's End - $39.00 / Necklace - Loft / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Nine West

I love these grey suede heels - they are so, so comfortable. But since I don't wear a lot of grey, I don't get to wear them that often.

Outfit #3

Casual weekend wear. Though my dad thought I looked dressed up when he saw me. Say what?!? Jeans, a sweater, and a tee. My unwashed hair in a pony tail. Whatever.

Sweater - Sonoma via Kohl's / Shirt - Rebecca Beeson / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Coach

These Coach flats are pretty cute. I love the leather details and the little bow. And unlike most ballet-style flats, these have a really comfortable arch support and a rubber sole similar to driving mocs.

Outfit #4

This comfy ponte knit blazer is from my after-Christmas Macy's shopping spree and the striped top is more interesting than a standard tee because it's linen  and therefore the fabric is kind-of slubby, and it has an exposed zipper down the back.

Blazer - Inc via Macy's - $53.70 sale from $89.50 / Shirt - H&M / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Pants - Style & Co. / Shoes - Coach

Outfit #5

Another shopping spree item here - the fun animal print-like (?) silk shirt. I liked the outfit better without the sweater, but it was a little too cold to go without it. The shirt has a tie that attaches to the back of the neck and then ties in front, but I didn't like it like that, so I used the tie at the waist - which is a little difficult to see here. The ruffles down the front, which hide the buttons, also aren't noticeable in pictures, but they're there!

Shirt - Anne Klein via Macy's - $26.70 sale from $89.00 / Sweater - ? / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Coach

I love these brown wedges, but they are soooo heavy! The wedge is all wood - not just wood-like. But the brass details are really cute.

Hope you enjoyed what I wore! See you next week!
