What I Wore Wednesday

Omigod. I am dying for spring. But of course it snowed 12" here this weekend. I am so done with winter. Seriously.

On a fashion note, I really need to get into my storage unit and find my shoes. Two huge boxes are in there somewhere and I NEED them for spring and summer. I know it's going to be an overwhelming undertaking, but I've got some great shoes that I want to wear. It's going to be like Christmas morning when I do find them. :)

On another fashion note, I think I need to give up my quest for printed pants. I've tried on so many pairs, from different stores, in different prints, but none of them work. They are just not flattering on a girl with my thighs. Sad. :(

Onto what I actually did wear! (Again, I'm trying to wear things I haven't worn lately.)

Outfit #1

I got so many compliments on these shoes last week that I had to wear them again. I like them even better without tights - I think the fun details are even more noticeable. I bought this shirt recently and I think it looks better in person than it does in the photo. I bought this necklace years ago for my cousin Paul's wedding to Lisa, who is one of the best additions to our family. :) It was recently rescued from the storage unit, so here it is!

Top - Target - $12.00 / Necklace - White House Black Market / Pants - Style & Co. / Shoes - Audrey Brooke

Outfit #2

I haven't worn this black blazer or this button down much lately, so here they are. I rolled up both sleeves to do something a little different and I really liked the look. I also haven't worn these heels all winter because of the peep toes, but the weather was pretty nice this day (before the snow) and I painted my toenails, so it was time.

Blazer - Talbot's / Shirt - Land's End / Necklace - Kohl's / Jeans - Levi's / Belt - Target / Shoes - Coach

Here's a closer look at the heels. You all know how I love Coach shoes because of their great details and good quality.

I also wore my new J. Crew animal print bracelet for the first time with the rest of my gold bangles. Though it's a slightly different animal print than the belt, it wasn't really noticeable.

Bracelet - J. Crew - $29.70

Outfit #3

I didn't wear my white jeans much this winter, even though I have no problem breaking that "rule". This outfit was inspired by an outfit I pinned on Pinterest, and the rep that I had lunch with this day loved the combo. Boss man even complimented me on the grey suede heels. How he never noticed them before, I'll never understand.

Top - Target / Necklace - ILY Couture / Jeans - J. Jill / Belt - from a dress / Shoes - Nine West

Outfit #4

Another new shirt, pants I forgot I had, and a necklace I've only worn once. Trying to follow my goals! I love this shirt. It's a fun, springy mint color, though it looks a little blue in this photo.

Shirt - ANA via JCP - $12.00 sale from $20.00 / Tank - Target? / Necklace - J. Crew / Belt - from a skirt / Pants - J. Jill / Shoes - Coach

Here's a better photo of the necklace and the true color of the shirt.

What I Wore Wednesday

Welcome back to What I Wore Wednesday! This week I continued to try to wear the under-used/under-worn items in my closet.

Outfit #1

I'm finally wearing the outfit I intended when I bought this shirt. It's finally (sort-of) nice enough to wear this very light-weight silk/linen skirt, even though it was still cold enough to have to wear tights! And this is only the second time I'm wearing this shirt - the first time was my first ever What I Wore Wednesday post! I think it's a pretty successful outfit - and my boss, the ultimate judge-y man, thought it was fabulous - loved the polka dots and stripes together. I think I'd still like to see it with a cream shirt with black polka dots though, so that's an item still on my shopping list.

Top - Target / Belt - ? / Skirt - Loft / Tights - Assets / Booties - Worthington via JCP - $37.00

Here's a closer look at the booties. They're fun. The heel is seriously high, almost too high to wear for any real length of time, and is a really shiny finish which is a nice contrast to the leather. They also have little ankle straps, but I took them off. Not sure I like those yet.

Outfit #2

I love this top with a passion. Even though I know mustard is really not the best color for me, I couldn't pass this one by. I absolutely love the pleated peplum, the velvet ribbon at the waist, the lace collar... And I got a ton of compliments on it when I wore it to the Design Center last week. It's sleeveless and the day was nice enough to loose the cardi at lunchtime when we ate on the patio and I got some much needed color on my shoulders. I'm not sure what necklace to wear with this though, so I just went without. Suggestions?

Top - Darling via ASOS - 55.00 British Pounds (not sure how many $ that is) / Cardi - Target / Pants - Style & Co. / Shoes - Coach

Outfit #3

Wore this to work and out for patio drinks with a friend. It was another seriously beautiful day so I decided to bust out the spring pants that haven't seen the light of day for a while. I had these taken in a couple months ago but they could use a little more work. I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to put more money into them or just shop for another pair of mint capris that fit better. I'm also wearing the last item from my Macy's shopping spree at Christmas - the black peplum tank. And another first time worn - the owl pendant.

Top - INC via Macy's - $59.50 / Pendant - Forever 21 - $4.80 / Capris - J. Jill / Shoes - Steve Madden

Here's a closer look at the cutie owl pendant. He's gold with a mint body and black eyes. He's really fun!

Outfit #4

Just to prove that I don't always dress up - this is what I wore on Saturday. This picture doesn't do justice to how bright this top really is - it is seriously neon pink. The color makes me look really tan, but it's not my favorite pink. Whodathunk I'd ever say that?!? :) The top is new, so it fits within my goals to wear things I haven't worn lately (or at all). I like the deep scoop neck and the three little buttons on the sleeves.

Top - J. Crew - $15.90 / Jeans - J. Jill

Outfit #5

Happy St. Patrick's Day! And Happy Birthday to my mom. :) Okay, so this outfit doesn't fit my goals, but that's allowed when it's a "holiday". I like the pairing of green with leopard.

Cardi - J. Crew / Tank - Old Navy / Belt - Target / Jeans - Levi's / Shoes - Charles David

Outfit #6

I've had this dress for a few years, but haven't worn it in a while. When I bought it I was a bit heavier and it fit quite differently. Now the bust and the torso are way too big, which I'm able to hide a little with the cardi, but up close and in person, I think I look lumpy. The dress is just from Target, so it's not a huge deal to get rid of it, but I really like the fabric and the skirt part of it is really comfortable because it's not binding whatsoever. Another item I've had for a while and had yet to wear - the shoes. They have some seriously fun details.

Dress - Target / Cardi - Target / Belt - from another dress / Tights - Assets / Shoes - Audrey Brook via DSW - $29.97 sale from $99.00

Seriously love these details - the grey fabric, the pierced leather edge detail, the fringe and tassels. Cutie!

Boy Bits - Part 5

Wow, it's been a long time since I wrote one of these! I would prefer to include some more pictures in this post, but all of my photos are in storage and the last time I was there it was too overwhelming and I couldn't find the box labeled "photo albums". So I only have the couple pictures that were already scanned and on my computer.

After the big Wolf & Chris debacle, I decided that I needed to not date anybody seriously for a while. Or maybe it wasn't exactly a conscious decision, but more of a desire to play the field a bit and have some serious fun. So for the next couple years, I dated around. Not one guy became too serious, whether I dated them for a night (tee hee), a couple weeks, or a few months. There were a couple guys in there that I wouldn't have minded things becoming more serious, but for one reason or another, it never happened. I don't think I need to change any names here, but if I do, I'll note it.

There was Paul, one of Kate's good friends. This was New Year's Eve 1999. Paul actually wasn't anything to me except for a fun time and a good kiss at midnight. I wasn't anything to him either. And all of that was just fine. (This was the night that my ex Jake kissed my roommate and Wolf was in Salt Lake City, being a not very present boyfriend.)
(I had to include this picture for a couple reasons. 1 - I think I look pretty dang cute here. :) 22 years old was pretty good to me. And 2 - that dude dancing in the background with the bright yellow shirt seriously cracks me up.)

Then there was this cute guy, whose name I cannot remember for the life of me. I want to call him Aaron, but I know that's not right. He was single and good friends with Erin's husband Pete and since I was single and good friends with Erin, we got paired up a lot. This is at my company's Christmas party, which he dutifully came to as my date. And how nice of him to match his tie to my dress! We would often all go downtown to party and then spend the night at Erin and Pete's house. "Aaron" and I always stayed in the same bed (because it was the most comfortable) and often cuddled with each other, but never once did anything happen with us. We just really weren't interested in each other that way. If I'm remembering correctly, I was nowhere near pretty enough nor thin enough for him, and I thought he was incredibly full of himself - thought he was god's gift to women. But we did have fun together and it was really nice to have a date to take to things.

At the joint bachelor/bachelorette party of a childhood friend, I met a guy named Kurt. We had actually gone to the same highschool, but he had graduated before I started. I flirted with him a bit that night, but it wasn't until their wedding that we really talked and exchanged numbers. I went out with him for a couple weeks, but it never became anything important. When I think back to him, I can barely remember anything about him except that I thought he was a little strange. And in fact, I actually couldn't remember his name at first. I had to go check out the groom's Facebook friend list to figure it out. Guess he didn't make that much of an impression on me.

There was a guy named Kash. Yep, that's right, Kash. I have a self taken picture of us, but of course it's in storage. I met him at Erin and Pete's wedding, where I was one of the bridesmaids and I think he was a highschool friend of Erin's. I had actually been crushing on one of the ushers, but ended up getting hot and steamy with Kash in the elevator. I know, I know. Totally cliche for the bridesmaid to hook up in the elevator, but you're only young once! We spent the evening partying with others from the wedding party and some close family friends, and then he made sure I got back to my car in the morning with just enough time to make it to the brunch Erin's family had the day after the wedding.

Then came Ryan. He's in the middle of the pic next to "Aaron". Another friend of Pete's that I met on New Year's Eve 2000. He fit my physical type to a T (tall and big) and he was pretty fun. He had a great sharpei that Lulu loved. I have a really cute photo of both dogs hanging out on my bed, but of course it's in storage. We ended up dating for a few months. He was a bit of a slacker though, and eventually his lack of motivation began to irritate me and we drifted apart. It was no big deal to say goodbye.

For a long time, I had a crush on a guy named Damon. He was an artist that worked at the place where we framed all of our art for the model homes. Sometimes we would commission him to paint custom pieces for us, but his real art was most definitely different than those pieces. He was really quite talented. (I'm sure he is still quite talented.) I don't recall how it happened, but we finally went out on a date. That led to a few more dates. We had a good time together, but we weren't exactly a great match. We had enough chemistry, but I don't think I was "alternative" enough for him, and I think I need a guy who is a little more stright-laced - maybe even preppy - and a little less artistic.

When I went to Italy for Jeannine and Vinny's wedding, I met Keith. He was a friend of theirs from San Diego and we ended up hitting it off. We paired up on our trips around Tuscany, exploring together in San Gimignano, Sienna, and Sant'Antimo. He had limitless energy, a great smile, and was a ton of fun.

The night of the rehearsal dinner, we all went out to an Irish pub (in Italy?!?) to celebrate and then a few of us continued on to a dance club. The pic above is from there - Keith and I danced up a storm, drank a lot, and kissed even more. We had a hell of a time getting back to the villa in the wee hours of the night, but eventually we made it. Keith and I spent most of the rest of the night making out next to the pool. :) The next morning was tough going - getting everybody ready for the wedding while extremely tired and hung over. The wedding was beautiful and the reception was tons of fun. Keith and I danced some more, but the magic of the past few days wasn't there for me anymore. It's not as though I went to Italy looking for a boyfriend and I only had a day or so left there.

Then there was Mike F. (You'll find out later why I have to distinguish him with his last initial). I actually would have liked things to be a little more with him, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Bridget and I went to see an old highschool friend, Dave, play hockey. Mike was his teammate and roommate. If guys used the term, Mike and Dave were BFFs. I distinctly remember Dave and Mike looking up to the bleachers where Bridget and I were sitting, and pointing and obviously discussing us. We ended up hanging out with them after the game and going back to another game and hanging out again. Eventually, Mike and I started talking on the phone, going out without our friends, etc. I really liked him. But as seems very typical for me, if I really like a guy and show it, he doesn't like me the same and started pulling away. The last straw was when I had bought us tickets to a Broncos game and he essentially stood me up. I was done with him. I honestly think part of the problem must have been that I don't think Dave approved. See Dave and I never got along growing up - and I mean never - and I know that had to affect how Mike thought of me. His loss.

Around this time (Italy and Mike F.), I started a new job at a large home builder. My department was based in a big office building in Lone Tree and our office dominated a large space on the third floor. To get to my office, I had to pass through the Mountain Land department, where the most beautiful boy worked. Oh my gosh, I thought I had crushed hard before, but nobody compares to the crush I had on Mike Davis. He was tall, strong, blonde, and had the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen. They were brilliant blue with amazingly long eyelashes. (Why is it always guys who have great eyelashes?) The girls I worked with started calling him Cute Boy instead of his name. (Not to his face!) I swear it took me a couple months to build up the courage to even say hello to him. When I finally did, I became even more infatuated with him - he had the sweetest southern accent. Seriously, my heart is pitter-pattering just remembering him!

Mike and I started up an office friendship - saying good morning and good night, chatting in his cube, the copy room, the lunch room, being friendly on all-office outings (the one picture I have of him is from when we all went miniature golfing, but of course it's in storage!), I gave him advice on where to go in Italy with his parents and lent him my Italian translation book. I found myself dressing nicer in the office so that he would notice me. One day, he came into our department (something he'd never done before) to ask me to move my car for a friend who couldn't navigate out of his spot on the ice. And though it seems like a small thing, it was huge to me that he knew what car I drove.

Mike ended up getting laid off, but the company he worked for did business with ours, so I'd still see him around the office occasionally. We eventually made plans to go to lunch together and it seemed like a date - not a friend thing. We didn't meet at some regular lunch place, he actually picked me up at the office in full view of everybody and went to a real restaurant, where he paid. We kept in touch for a while, even after my department got laid off, but never went out again and we eventually lost track of each other. I've tried to find him on Facebook, but haven't had any luck there. His name is just too common and I'm not sure if he still lives here or if he moved back home. I'd like to know how his life has gone. Is he married yet? Does he have kids? Of all the guys I've liked, he is one of the few I wish had been more even to this day. (And how I wish I could show you how cute he was!)

Hope you enjoyed this blast from my past! Up next the story of Jared*.

What I Wore Wednesday

Welcome back to another week of What I Wore Wednesday. I've decided that I need to try to wear the items in my closet that either I've never worn or don't get to see the light of day often enough. Every day this past week (that I actually got dressed), at least one piece of clothing fit this category.

Outfit #1

Wearing my new favorite color combo again - bright pink and navy. And I rescued my jewelry box from storage, so I'm wearing a pendant that I haven't had access to in 5 months. The sweater is one of the thrifted items from my shopping spree at Goodwill a couple months ago.

Cardi - Classiques Entier (a Nordstrom brand), thrifted, $5.99 / Tank - Target / Necklace - Tucson Gem & Mineral Show / Pants - H&M / Shoes - Nine West

Here's a better photo of my necklace. I love it - I mean, c'mon, it's got three different pink stones. What's not to love? :) I got it many years ago when I used to do a lot of work in Tucson and went to the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show. That's a crazy event, incredibly overwhelming. Such gorgeous things. It's mostly loose gems and stones and such, but occasionally there was finished jewelry like this.

Outfit #2

Another Goodwill item here - a black midi skirt. When I tried it on I wasn't so sure about the length on me, but as it's such a popular length this season, I decided to get it. I don't think it's a bad look upon closer inspection.

Jean Jacket - The Gap / T-Shirt - J. Crew - $14.90 / Skirt - Loft, thrifted - $4.99 / Shoes - Liz Claiborne via JCP - $40.00

I adore these polka dot shoes. So friggin cute.  And quite comfortable, too. Can you believe they're from JCP?!?

Outfit #3

For someone who wears leopard print all the time, I don't wear this cashmere cardi nearly often enough. And I got it for a steal at the end of last winter. Cashmere, even at Kohl's, is always expensive, so you should buy it on sale whenever you can.

Cardi - Apt. 9 via Kohl's / Tank - Target / Jeans - Levi's / Boots - Nine West

Outfit #4

I bought this skirt early in the fall and this is the first time I've worn it. It is not the most flattering on me for some reason. I might need to get it taken in, as when I cinch the waist with a belt, the side seams lie funny on my hips. Originally, I thought the length was weird, but now I like it (see the above midi skirt). You can't see the colors well, but the windowpane plaid is in off white and dusty orange. It's a great lined wool skirt, but it's more appropriate for fall than spring, even if the temp outside still says winter.

Top - Apt. 9 via Kohl's / Skirt - Land's End / Belt - Target / Boots - David Tate

Outfit #5

Some more jewelry from the rescued jewelry box and a pair of pants that I've never worn. Plus a top I haven't worn probably since last spring. I bought the pants online a long time ago and they didn't fit when I got them. I procrastinated sending them back and  missed the deadline, so they just sat in my drawer until I moved. When I tried them on again when I did my big closet clean out, they actually fit! Well, the thighs fit now. I still need to get the waist taken in a couple inches. But that's easily hidden until I can get them altered. I really like them. They're almost like a black chambray (that's the best way I can describe the fabric) and have a fun trapunto stitching on the waistband. I wanted to wear them with some open toe heels, but we unexpectedly got a bunch of show overnight and this morning, so boots it is.

I bought the necklace and matching earrings at the Saturday Market in Portland many years ago. I don't know what stone it is, but I always get compliments on it.

Cardi - Target / Top - Simply Vera by Vera Wang via Kohl's / Belt - from a skirt / Necklace & Earrings - Saturday Market / Pants - Chadwicks / Boots - Nine West

What I Wore Wednesday

I have just a few outfits to share from this past week as I wasn't feeling or looking particularly interesting most days. Not sure why exactly... Then I literally didn't do anything this weekend, so no great outfits then, either. But here are the few outfits worth showing!

Outfit #1

First I must say that I am so overdue for a haircut and highlights that it's ridiculous. My hair is much too long and doesn't do anything I want it to. My roots are killing me and make my hair look permanently dirty. I need to get in to see Bruce ASAP! I say all of that to apologize for how shitty my hair looks lately and especially in this picture. Wore this to work - actually put in a full day as I had to meet with our bookkeeper and get my own work done as well. I love the layers of ruffles on this top and usually wear it in the summer because it's so lightweight, but with the cardi over it, it was fine.

Cardi - J. Crew / Shirt - Target / Belt - Coach / Pants - CAbi / Shoes - Coach

Outfit #2

I had originally planned to wear this great ivory wool coat over this - it has the most beautiful lining, but I decided that it seriously isn't flattering, so I think I'm going to have to get rid of it. The rest of the outfit isn't particularly inspiring, but it was comfortable! I had planned on going in to work, but then got the call that I wasn't needed, so I got dressed for no reason. I am trying to make an effort to wear these shoes more since I realized how much I love them.

Sweater - Target - $19.99 / Necklace - Loft / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Nine West

Outfit #3

I fell in love with this dress when I saw it on Tanesha of Girl with Curves. Though she has much more up top than me, I figured this dress would look good on me since it looked so fabulous on her. I styled it differently than she did, of course. I like accentuating my waist with a wide belt, and I liked black under it instead of white. I thought I had a long sleeve turtleneck, but it must be in storage because it isn't here. But this one looked okay under the dress. Also, the necklace I'm wearing just gets lost in the print, so next time I won't bother with it. As the weather gets nicer, I can wear this with a black cardi over it. And how awesome that it has pockets?!? After work, I went out to dinner with Michelle to celebrate my birthday. We went to  Charcoal, and had a wonderful dinner taking advantage of the 5280 deals during Denver Restaurant Week. Really great food and wine, our server was really knowledgeable, and the ambiance was nice. I recommend it!

Dress - Target - $27.99 / Turtleneck - CAbi / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Belt - ? / Tights - Assets / Shoes - Coach

That's it for this week! I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy again so click on the button over on the right to check out the other blogger's outfits! I'm also linking up with Transatlantic Blonde for the first time, so check her out as well!
