Letter to Myself 10 Years Ago
It has been a really long time since I've written a personal post here, but a group I'm a part of on Facebook is doing a month of writing prompts. I definitely can't write every day, but I'll try to write posts on the topics that really speak to me. So, here's my first one! A letter to myself, 10 years ago. What do I know now that I wish I'd known then?
Dear 27-year old Liz,
I know you think that having a boyfriend makes you more complete, but you are a whole person just as you are. You don't need a man to make your life better. So don't settle. Really think about what you want from a partner. Remember that a tiger can't change his stripes. If a problem happens over and over without getting better, without any efforts to make a change, it's not going to change!
In other words, dump the alcoholic boyfriend! He's not good for you! He's never going to realize he has a problem and take the necessary steps to help himself, so you need to get out before you waste three years on him.
Keep up the working out. You're doing well right now, being healthy, you're generally happy with the way your body looks. Stay in that place. It's easy to let yourself go a bit when you're in a relationship, but you won't be happy with yourself in two or three years. And it's just going to be that much harder to pick it back up if you stop now. It's going to be monumentally hard to make changes 10 years from now. Take my word for it!
Lastly, start saving and stop spending. You will not always have a good paying job. You will encounter difficult money times and having a truck load of debt on your shoulders makes life really hard.
I hope you take my advice! I've been there, so I know. :)
With Love,
37-year old Liz

What I Wore
Welcome back to another week of What I Wore!
I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy, of course!
Outfit #1
You can see the stripes of my shirt through my lined skirt, but I don't care because it's a super cute outfit! :)
Top - H&M / Necklace - Loft / Belt - Macy's? / Skirt - Target / Shoes - Moda
How cute are these red patent peep toes?
Outfit #2
My boss hates this color, but I like it and I think it makes my eyes look greener when I wear it.
Dress - Target / Belt - Target / Necklace - Charming Charlie / Shoes - Nine West
Outfit #3
My Fourth of July outfit. I'm not a stars and stripes kind of girl, but I will red, white, and blue! I should have gotten a better pic of the shirt - it's made up of hundreds of little pleats. Very swingy and fun.
Top - Michael Kors / Belt - from a dress / Shorts - Target / Flips - Coach
Outfit #4
Cute new top. :)
Top - Elle via Kohl's - $30.00 sale from $40.00 / Jeans - J. Jill / Flips - Land's End
Here's a close up of the shirt - it's mini blue and white stripes with a little lace inset.
Outfit #5
This skirt is a really weird length on me, so I folded down the waist a couple times and hid it with a wide belt. Eventually I'll get it altered.
Top - American Living / Belt - Target / Skirt - J. Jill via The Second Time Shop - $14.00 / Shoes - Black Rooster
Because Tonia asked last week, here's a pic of my everyday purse. It's a very fun chevron quilted fabric bag from Coach. I really like how big it is and that it has a long shoulder strap as well as handles. :) The inside is a beautiful peacock blue, too.
I used to switch my bag on an almost daily basis, but most of my bags are in storage right now, so I can't do that. :(
That's it for this week! I'll see you back here next week for more outfits!

What I Wore
Welcome back to another week of what I wore!
I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy, of course!
Outfit #1
I love this grey lace top. You can't see it very well in the photo, but it has batwings with crochet lace on the edges. It's very cute.
Top - Style & Co / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Pants - Style & Co. / Shoes - Vince Camuto
I didn't take a detail pic of these shoes the first time I wore them, so here it is now. I love the cut out vamp on the inside - very sexy.
Outfit #2
I was originally wearing a polka dot top with this outfit, but it was so, so hot this day and the top was polyester and I felt like it was suffocating me, so I had to take it off. I had a really long day ahead of me and there was no way I was going to spend it sweltering.
Top - Old Navy / Belt - ? / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Skirt - Target / Shoes - Coach
I treated myself to a new pair of Coach sandals. I've honestly been looking at black and white striped shoes for a while now and when I saw these on Coach's outlet clearance, I knew they were the ones. Very cute. :)
Outfit #3
Saturday I spent the entire day at Junior League's Board of Director's retreat. Though it was hot outside, I knew I'd get cold sitting in a conference room all day, and the cardi was perfect.
Tank - Target / Cardi - Target / Necklace - Charming Charlie / Skirt - Target / Flips - Tory Burch
Outfit #4
Pardon the cropped out head. Sunday was a no makeup day. :) I love the navy eyelet on the top of this shirt. And I finally got to wear these cutie pink sandals I got a while back. :)
Top - Target / Jeans - ANA / Shoes - Steve Madden
Outfit #5
Just so you all know, these are not the shoes to wear to a site visit with a potential contractor. Too bad I didn't know beforehand that's what I'd be doing this day. :(
Top - Target / Necklace - J. Crew / Pants - AB Studio / Shoes - Tahari
Outfit #6
Just another day at work.
Top - Target / Necklace - J. Crew / Pants - CAbi / Shoes - Coach
I've had these shoes for a few years now, but this is only the second time I've worn them. They're technically a full size too big and the extra space at the back really bothers me. Thankfully, the pants did a great job of hiding that issue.
That's it for this week! I'll see you back here next week with more outfits!

What I Wore
Welcome back to another week of what I wore!
I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy, of course!
Outfit #1
I wore my jean jacket over this for part of the day, but the outfit definitely looked better without it.
Top - Target / Necklace - Second Time Shop - $5.00 / Pants - Style & Co. / Shoes - Tory Burch
Outfit #2
I always pair this sweater with this dress and shoes. I should mix it up some time. :) But I really am a creature of habit.
Dress - Target / Cardi - CAbi / Shoes - Bandolino
I love the design of these wedges.
Outfit #3
I wore this to a casual family dinner and for one of the first times ever, I was probably the most dressed down person there. Pretty funny. :)
Top - Coco & Chase / Tank - Target / Shorts - Lee / Flips - Tory Burch
Outfit #4
Sunday Funday - met a Junior League friend at Starbucks to discuss a job and then went to the Greek Festival with Michelle's family.
Tank - Coldwater Creek / Skirt - Target / Flips - Tory Burch
Outfit #5
Shhhhh..... I wore this dress to an interview. It would be a career change if it happens. It went well, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet. But the dress - fabulous! I love the stitching on it. It has pockets. I think it's really quite flattering.
Dress & Belt - Evan Piccone / Shoes - Vince Camuto
That's it for this week! See you back here next week for more outfits!

What I Wore
Welcome back to another week of what I wore!
I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy, of course!
Outfit #1
I love this dress. It's really comfortable and pretty casual, even if it doesn't look like it - it's only cotton. It has pretty trapunto stitch detailing along the neck and hem. I've had it for years and I hope it doesn't wear out too soon.
Dress - Target / Necklace - Loft / Shoes - Tory Burch
Outfit #2
This is the same t-shirt with the cute crochet detail on the shoulders that I wore last week.
Top - Target / Scarf - Target / Jeans - J. Jill / Shoes - Nine West
These shoes seemed more comfortable last year. I still like them, but need to remember not to wear them if I'm going to be walking a lot.
Outfit #3
It was pretty hot this day, and I thought that all this flowy stuff would be okay, but I was too hot. I seriously don't know how people wear scarves all summer long.
Top - Worthington / Scarf - JCP / Skirt - Bopeau / Flips - Tory Burch
Outfit #4
I wonder how my polka dot heels would like with this mini-dot print dress? Too many dots?
Dress & Belt - Corey P / Shoes - Tahari
That's it for this week! I'll see you back here next week with more outfits!

What I Wore
Welcome back to another week of what I wore! I'm so, so late in posting this, so I apologize! I've been busy with tons of Junior League stuff.
Of course I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy!
Outfit #1
I love this dress on hot day! It's very lightweight, but doesn't cling to my bad areas. :)
Dress - Lauren Conrad / Belt - Charming Charlie / Shoes - Target
Outfit #2
My boss has issues with this shirt because the zipper has an exposed bright pink placket. He thinks the trend is really about lazy design. Hmmm...
Top - Target / Pants - Lee / Shoes - Jessica Simpson
I love all the different materials on these shoes. There's two more you don't see here - the wedge is different and then the insole is leopard print. :)
Outfit #3
I got this shirt on my recent shopping trip to JCP, and it was totally on sale along with everything else I bought. It's bright and summery. I love a good sale!
Top - Liz Claiborne via JCP / Jeans - Levi's / Shoes - J. Crew
Outfit #4
I dislike my hair here, but I was just heading to a friend's block party this night. Wish I had known the local fire department guys were going to make an appearance!
Top - Target / Jeans - Levi's / Shoes - Target
The top has fun crochet-like details on the shoulders.
These shoes are just like a designer shoe I saw recently, but totally cheap at Target! They're pretty comfortable, too. :)
Outfit #5
I love this dress, but I was so self conscious with the keyhole. Seriously if I had any bigger boobs, it would have been indecent when I was sitting.
Dress - J. Crew / Belt - from a skirt / Shoes - Calvin Klein
I actually wore the blazer most of the day because it was pretty chilly for a while.
Outfit #6
My favorite pairing - stripes and polka dots!
Top - Target / Necklace - Charming Charlie / Belt - ? / Skirt - Loft / Shoes - Liz Claiborne
That's it for this week! Hope you enjoyed my outfits! I'll see you back here next week for more!

What I Wore
Welcome back to another edition of what I wore! I'm linking up with the Pleated Poppy, of course!
Outfit #1
I shouldn't have gone shopping, but I wanted a new maxi dress. Instead of that, I got this! It's difficult to tell, but the pattern is made from the black leaf pattern and the burn out of the dress fabric to show the nude liner fabric. It's really quite pretty.
Dress - Liz Claiborne via JCP - $33.99 sale from $80.00 / Shoes - my Aunt's
Outfit #2
I loved this outfit last year and still love it this year! The combo of bright yellow with the aqua just works for me. I do wish I had remembered to bring the fun yellow necklace I used to wear with it.
Cardi - Sonoma / Tank - Old Navy / Pants - Liz Claiborne / Flips - Land's End
Outfit #3
We had our last Junior League event of the year down at the Brown Palace, and I wanted to dress up a bit. I had planned to wear a different dress that I haven't worn yet, but it didn't fit that great on the top. (I've never actually liked the top of it anyway, so I think I might have it altered to be a skirt.) Thankfully, I had this here as a back-up!
Dress - Danny & Nicole / Shoes - Michelle D
Outfit #4
It's hot here. Wearing this belt was suffocating me, the shoes were making me sweat, and the strapless bra I was wearing was so ridiculously uncomfortable. Needless to say, all three were off as soon as possible. :)
Dress - Target / Belt - Target / Shoes - Calvin Klein
Outfit #5
An even hotter day. I can't wait to get back home so that I can have complete access to my shoes and I don't have to wear pumps when I want sandals.
Top - Liz Claiborne - $6.79 sale from $30.00 / Necklace - Loft / Pants - 212 Collection / Shoes - Nine West
Outfit #6
Are colored skinnies still okay to wear? I feel really out of it with current style trends... Though I do know that coral is still a great color!
Top - Target - $17.99 / Pants - Old Navy / Shoes - Calvin Klein
That's it for this week! See you back here next week for more outfits!
